HGUC 1/144 G-Armor + RX-78-2 Review
HGUC G-ARMOR + RX-78-2 Review
1st Part HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Review
The HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 is the same as the first release of the earlier version with some of the basic weapons that are intact. These are the basic weapons that were included in the G-Armor. The hyper bazooka, a double shield, a beam rifle, and a single beam saber. Too bad I thought they were going to include the beam javelin and the Gundam hammer. So far the details of this version is the same as the first one the only problem is that there are too many seam lines that were visible like for example the armors feet then on the hyper bazooka. If you are going to build this one and have plans on painting it you will have a hard time completing it because of the seam lines it needs a lot of putty to work with.
Although the RX-78-2 is fun to build I enjoyed snap building it there are no other defects or any other complications or difficulty while snap building this one. The articulation is great it can make a half genuflect position or the kneeling position but not full. It can reach the beam saber at the back but also not a full grab of the beam saber handle like the ones it did on the anime or the MG version 2.0. The feet of the Gundam has an articulation like you fold half of its toes downwards. The articulation is not really bad it passes on to the standard where you can have fun fiddling it because the joints are tight. But I wouldn’t recommend you to play with this one because you will make the joints lose its tightness plus it’s not a toy to play with.
The accessories and weapons are also great it comes in with a basic pack of weapons before like what I said above it carries the hyper bazooka, a double shield, a beam rifle, and a single beam saber. Although instead of a two beam saber handles it only has one beam that was included on the box. The weapon handles are basically the same thing as of the first version like you can mount the hyper bazooka on the back. You can also put in the shield on the back. The only missing part that isn’t included while storing your weapons is that you cannot mount the beam rifle on the back or mount it on the shield I wish they included that one. It would be much cooler also if they included the beam javelin and the Gundam hammer if they include that on a 1/144 that would be the most uber awesome version of the HGUC RX-78-2. Of what I’ve heard on the 30th anniversary version of the RX-78-2 they will include the Gundam Hammer but not the beam javelin.
2nd Part the G-Armor Review
The G-Armor is an awesome additional feature to the RX-78-2 it serves as an additional fire power to the Gundam crew.
There are 7 conversion modes of the G-Armor
- G-Fighter
- G-Bull
- G-Bull Easy
- G-Sky
- G-Sky Easy
- Gundam Sky
- G-Armor
Each of the conversion modes of the G-Amor is relatively easy to convert and they are slightly tight but the only problem is they are wobbly when you convert them to the G-Armor itself. Wobbly because the G-Armor is very long like when you compare it to a two can of coke that’s how long the G-Armor was. The front is balance though but on the back or the large booster isn’t balanced at all and it’s not actually very straight when you view it on the right side of the G-Armor. I wish they would have made a support lock tighter to support the boosters to make it all straightened and balanced it out.
Converting to G-Fighter mode is really easy you will need the booster compartment and the G-Bull connected together to form the G-Fighter but you will need to reveal the tracked wheels. Then connect it below the booster compartment. The G-Fighter is like a space battle tank mounted with twin cannons on top. The twin cannons rotate 360 degrees and both of the cannons swivel up and down. The twin cannons must face forward in the G-Fighter mode.
The G-Bull is really awesome here the G-Bull is very balanced it can stand on its own because it has a weight track on the bottom middle to support it. The G-Bull has a twin mounted cannon on top plus it has a hand held beam rifle of Gundam and a two shield holding it side by side. The conversion of the G-Bull is easy and it goes like this. You split out half of the upper body of the RX-78-2 Gundam slap it in on the G-Bull and remove the middle part where you should put in the core block facing the pilot cockpit and now you have a G-Bull conversion. Then don’t forget to rotate the twin cannons backwards facing the direction of the beam rifle. For the G-Bull Easy also instead of the core block you have another one that doesn’t have a revealed pilot’s cockpit slap that one in instead and you have a G-Bull Easy.
While on the G-Sky it’s different you will need to split the body of RX-78-2 then take the lower part instead of the upper body itself. You will need to insert the lower part namely the leg part in to the booster compartment. While inserting it don’t forget the middle part on the booster compartment that you will need to insert it in to the middle skirt of the lower part of the Gundam. This will provide like a lock connection so that it wouldn’t wobble too much when you move it. When you are done inserting the legs part inside of the booster compartment you can now insert the core fighter. And there you go you have a G-Sky conversion. When you insert the core fighter don’t forget the T shape part to insert it on to the core fighter itself this will provide the way to connect to the waist part of the Gundam. The G-Sky Easy it has the same procedure the only difference here is that you will just cover the Gundam’s waist instead of revealing the waist of the Gundam.
The Gundam Sky has the same procedure as of the G-Sky and the G-Sky Easy the only difference is that instead of splitting the whole Gundam itself you don’t have too. Instead you will need the whole Gundam into the booster compartment itself. Thus this will reveal the upper body of the Gundam instead of the Gundam’s feet you’ll have the booster compartment inserted instead. The purpose of having the booster compartment into the Gundam’s feet is that it will have an added lift and speed to the Gundam when it is on space well I guess that’s just my theory on the Gundam Sky.
The G-Armor is really the fun part of the kit itself instead of pulling apart the upper and the lower part of the whole Gundam. You need the whole Gundam itself then slapping in the booster compartment and the G-Bull. The procedure in connecting this one is by means of following the Gundam Sky first followed by the G-Bull conversion. However, instead of the legs facing downwards or clockwise you will need to invert the legs to an upward or counter clock wise position. Then pull down the two fuselage of the booster compartment downwards. After connecting the G-Bull and the booster compartment you will have to reveal the tracked wheels. Then connect it under the middle of the booster compartment and the back of the Gundam’s back pack. And there you have it the G-Armor really awesome huh.
All in all the HGUC G-Armor is fun to build its awesome because you have a two in one combo like you have the G-Armor + RX-78-2 Gundam. The Gundam can ride on top of the G-Armor much like on the anime. The good point on the RX-78-2 Gundam is it retains the very core basic armaments like beam rifle, shield, the hyper bazooka, the shield, the beam saber, and then it has an extra shield. Another good side is that it included a small core fighter which is sweet. The downside is that it doesn’t have the beam javelin and the Gundam hammer. So I’ll give the RX-78-2 a grade of 8/10.
Then on the G-Armor side it’s all not the perfect but it’s near to perfect I really love the G-Armor but the downside is that it’s kind of wobbly. When you hold it on the middle and you’re not careful it might collapse plus it all lacks a very solid connector that can hold off the unbalanced part of the whole G-Armor itself. All in all the G-Armors grade is 9/10. Oh before I forget it also comes in a cool stand which has 3 positions to hold off the whole G-Armor. Over all this is an uber awesome addition to your growing HGUC collection. I really recommend this one. If I had more molah I would pick up the MG version of the G-Fighter but my budget is really limited so I opt out for the HGUC instead.
